The voice of lead vocalist Gary Nichols captivated my senses the very first time i heard it. It was one of those show stoppers that demand your attention and keep you coming back to hear more. Combine that with a beautiful fiddle sound and female vocal from Tammy Rogers, plus a set of solid Nashville musicians and you have yourself one hell of a good bluegrass band.
Join me in listening to one of my favorites and you will see what I am talking about. Enjoy.
todays beer of the day. @sierranevada #harvestfreshhopipa #southernhemisphereharvest
Today on TBD, Sierra Nevada's Southern Hemisphere Harvest Fresh Hop IPA:
Here is what Sierra Nevada is says. "Southern Hemisphere features fresh New Zealand hops that are picked, dried, and shipped to our brewery within seven days. The result is a complex beer that showcases the floral and herbal flavors and aromas of Southern Cross, Pacifica, and Motueka hops. Southern Hemisphere is part of our five-bottle Harvest series which features single hop, fresh hop, wet hop, and wild hop beers."
This is the 2nd in the lineup of Sierra Nevada's Harvest series beers. "Our five-bottle Harvest series showcases our favorite ingredient by exploring a range of hopping methods: single hop, fresh hop, wet hop, and wild hop. By working directly with breeders and growers, we can recreate this series each year using rare hops early in their development."
My initial impression from the first pour is that the beer is an amber color with fairly good carbonation and a good head that is frothy with large airy bubbles (I recommend letting it breath for a few minutes if you pour it too soon the head will come out flat as did my initial pour, the second pour was much better). You can really smell the citrus notes in this IPA. The first sip you will notice the crisp flavor of the beer, no bitter after taste, very smooth and enjoyable. It is not as thick feeling on the palate as you would suspect which is a nice surprise. My overall impression of the beer is that it is reasonably priced considering that you get a 24 ounce bottle for around $5 and that is about the going rate of most pints at your local Irish Pub. So would I recommend this beer to a friend, you know it. I would also buy it more often than some of the other higher priced beers as you get two for the price of one in this case. Heck, I may even splurge and buy a couple for our next MSO trip. Thanks Sierra Nevada I look forward to trying the other 4!

bug chuckers. @bugchuckersinc @overlandfestival #flyfishing #river #adventure
Last weekend Jeremy and I made the trip up to the Mid-Atlantic Overland Festival just outside Huntingdon, PA. Among the many people we meet and shared beers with, there was one particular couple that we truly enjoyed cutting jokes and getting loud with at the film fest - Steve and Cass.
After the weekend came to a close, we picked up a new follower on Twitter. Intrigued by the username (@bugchuckersinc) I made it a point to scroll through the photos; and I'm glad I did - our recently old friends from the festival.
Steve, aka. Steve-O, a co-founder of Bug Chuckers, Inc., has been chucking bugs since he was 12. When he’s not in the office trying to change the face of fishing retail, he can be found flogging the water somewhere between Pittsburgh, Western Maryland the Florida Keys and Montana.
Bug Chuckers, Inc. is truly entertaining blog. It's not just about catching fish, it's about the experience for this team of fishing personalities. It's as simple as sharing the time on the water with like minded buds and shooting the shit over a beer at the end of the day.
Tune into Bug Chuckers, Inc. on Facebook, Twitter or just hit up their blog and get latest updates from Steve and his friends. We'll surely be hunting these guys down when it comes time to plan our next overnight float fishing trip on the Upper New River.
Thanks again Steve and Cass for your support at the Mid-Atlantic Overland film festival!

the real appalachia. @tricities_com #theappalachianproject #appalachianheritage
Two men on a mission to impart the stories of Appalachia. "They want to tell the stories of the Appalachia they know — not the impoverished, drug addiction-centered stories that make national media."
"The Appalachian Project is the brainchild of Shane Simmons and Jason Barton, two bankers with video cameras who believe the stories of this region are positive ones, and need to be told. Barton is from Haysi, Virginia, and Simmons grew up in Richlands. The two men started a few months ago with a mission of filming a documentary of the stories told by some of the elderly members of the region — stories of coal mines, of African-American history in the region, of folks of Melungeon background — but now realize it will be a multi-film project. "
"We’re trying to shed a positive light on Appalachian heritage, and draw attention to how it really is, what it’s been, where it came from. ... We’re trying to tell the true story, and the truth is positivity and I think we’ve tapped into that,” Simmons said. “We want to tell it through the eyes and mouths [of the people who lived it]. Those stories are dying off every day.”
These are two guys after my own heart, I am tired of Appalachia getting a bad wrap. I am glad that there are others that want to spread a positive account about our neck of the woods. Nice job guys!

#MUSIC for the #Road. @TheWoodBrothers #TheMuse
Two brothers raised in Boulder, CO, who diverged to different parts of the country to explore their individual musical interests, would soon realize they were meant to play and write music together. As older brother Oliver says “This is the first record that really feels like a band record. It’s taken years for us to really feel like we can collaborate, and I think this is the pinnacle of it so far.”
I have been listening to these guys for awhile and feel "The Muse" is an absolute beautiful rendition of Oliver's writing and the bands musical cohesiveness. Its sure to get the empty mind rolling on the open road, and this video captures their writing with imagery and tone. Enjoy!
