Music 4 the road - 8. Brunettes Shoot Blondes, "Knock Knock".
I came across this video by Brunettes Shoot Blondes on Vimeo and had to show it to you. This just goes to show you how versatile and cool Apple products can be. When we (Mountain State Overland) are out traveling the back country filming our videos, we use our iPhones and iPads to navigate and we do all of our editing with our MacBook's. Not even in my wildest dreams could I have imagined that they would be used to make a music video, literally.
"There's a fine tradition among musicians for accompanying their latest song with a trippy, weird, or just technically excellent video to woo their fans. The latest example of this comes from Ukrainian band Brunettes Shoot Blondes, whose single "Knock Knock" has been set to an endearing animated love story taking place across a variety of iPhones, iPads, iPods, and a trio of MacBook laptops. Apple's products provide the stage, but it's the creativity and finesse of the animation that really make this video worth watching. Snippets of the story play on each device for mere seconds, as it jumps around from iPhone to iPad and back to phone. This classic tale of courtship crashes its way through the iOS home screen, tumbles across a series of iPhones, and ultimately provides a satisfying - if somewhat predictable - conclusion."

today's beer of the day - 16. @bridgebrewworks #theblunt #englishale
Today on TBD - 16, Bridge Brew Works, The Blunt Ale. It is an English Ale brewed in Spanish Cedar that was made by Bridge Brew Works out of Fayetteville, WV.
"We brew beer that we want to drink. They aren’t beers you might expect to be brewed by a small brewery in Southern West Virginia. You might not like them, and that’s ok. We won’t be mad. Promise. Why? If our beers were brewed to be liked by all, they would never be special to some."
"Belgian-style beers made in West Virginia? No. It’s not a joke. There are a number of year-round beers available as well as a variety of seasonal offerings from a light and refreshing Kolsch-style beer, to a big, strong Barleywine. It’s our goal to provide you year-round consistent quality along with something new each season."
My take on this beer is: that it is dark amber in color and that it has a fair amount of head when initially poured. It also has loads of carbonation while resting. It has a sweet malty aroma, kind of a caramel smell, and it's flavor is very smooth with the slight bitterness that you would expect from an ale. There is also a hoppyness noted as well. This is a smooth crisp beer and you will enjoy the various notes and tingle from the first sip to the last. This was a great beer in my opinion, I loved the bottle and the name as well (a blunt is a trick in which the stern portion of the kayak rises from the water and rotates 180 degrees before resuming contact with the water). This beer comes in at 5.5% ABV so it is not the strongest brew out there, however when you pour out a beer and it fills the glass completely (it is a pint) then what more do you want.

Weekly Video XXIV - "The Ridge", A Film by Cut Media - Cutmedia.com
The first time that I saw Danny MacAskill was in his Imaginate film, he amazed me even then. His newest video is even better! I hope that you enjoy it even more than I did.
"#TheRidge is the brand new film from Danny MacAskill… For the first time in one of his films Danny climbs aboard a mountain bike and returns to his native home of the Isle of Skye in Scotland to take on a death-defying ride along the notorious Cuillin Ridgeline."
The gorgeously shot video finds the cyclist back home on Scotland, his epic adventure captured by helmet-cam, drone and camera lenses that are seemingly everywhere.

the dakota territory challenge. @bh4wheelers #rockcrawling #4x4 #blackhills #offroad
My father, Gordon Specht, and uncle, Charles (Charlie) Specht, have equally been a huge part of encouraging me to enjoy life and pursue my dreams. After hearing about dad's recent trip out West to visit Charlie and the family on the farm in Nebraska, I couldn't resist reserving a post on the MSO blog for this brotherly adventure.
Written and photographed by Gordon Specht.
"This was my first time out with rock crawlers. My brother, Charlie, has a custom Rubicon fitted with oversize tires, bead lock rims, suspension conversions and remote locking hubs that give him a pretty competitive advantage against the boulder strewn trails in the South Dakota Black Hills.
We met with over 70 other drivers with crawlers that varied from stock Jeeps to serious home built long wheel-based rigs equipped with front and rear steer, 6 liter engines and 54” tires.
The event we attended was the 2014 Dakota Territory Challenge, organized by the Black Hills 4 Wheelers. The meet was located 10 miles north of Hill City, South Dakota. From there, drivers had their choice of ten trails to drive over a three day period and most drivers got on two trails per day. The trails and crawlers were pre-rated 6-10 for difficulty and paired with suitable the crawlers; however, drivers could take their trucks on any of the trails open for the event. Typically, no more than 7-10 rigs were scheduled to be on any one trail keeping the congestion caused by trail difficulty or breakdowns to a minimum.
The event was truly an incredible experience. Each driver took only one passenger to aid in spotting and managing the winch lines. I was Charlie's co-pilot and we navigated the trails as a team; brothers.
Winning was just being able to participate along with the occasional bragging rights of course. I was amazed with each crawler’s ability to maneuver these trails and the teamwork amongst the participants was unbelievable. No driver was left with a breakdown or need for a winch anchor and every team was a resource. Each driver was dedicated to staying on the marked trails to keep the overall environmental impact of the event minimal thus preserving the sport and environment for others to enjoy in the future."

Music 4 the road - 7. The Mountain Goats, "Up the Wolves".
I heard this song at the end of the Season 4, Episode 12, of the Walking Dead and had to find it. This is a great song, check out The Mountain Goats when you get a chance.
"The Mountain Goats are an American indie folk rock band formed in Claremont, California by singer-songwriter John Darnielle. The band is currently based in Durham, North Carolina."
"For many years, the sole member of the Mountain Goats was Darnielle despite the plural moniker. Although he remains the core member of the band, he has gradually worked with a variety of collaborators who have included bassist Peter Hughes, drummer Jon Wurster, singer-songwriter Franklin Bruno, bassist and vocalist Rachel Ware, singer-songwriter/producer John Vanderslice, guitarist Kaki King and Annie Clark."
"Throughout the 1990s, the Mountain Goats were known for producing low-fidelity home recordings (most famously, on a boom box) and releasing recordings in cassette or vinyl 7" formats. Since 2002, the Mountain Goats have adopted a more polished approach, recording studio albums with a full band."
